Administrative files, 1853-1857.

The Governor is the chief executive of the state whose function is to administer the laws of the state by administration of executive decisions and actions. Included in this series are militia returns, commissions for notary publics and the governor's private secretary, John D. Catlin. Other correspondence covers various topics including the Georgia-Alabama Boundary, distribution of state documents, incomplete tract books, commissions of the Pilotage Board, receipts from the State Insane Hospital, performance bonds, and resignations from various positions around the state. Communications with circuit courts regarding sentencings, the Attorney General, commissioner of deeds, commissioner of lands, and the Quarter Master General are also included in this series. Included in the State Geological Survey folder are letters regarding the survey itself and letters regarding the operations of the agency following the death of Professor Tuomey, state geologist. Within the Legislature - expenditures and resolutions folder are the drafts of bills dealing with fees to officers making arrests, a joint resolution on the Kansas affair, and petitions to the legislature from various citizenry regarding county boundaries. Expenditure lists for printing the "Rules of the House" and miscellaneous supplies are also included.
